A type of program correctness where variables declared constant or immutable can be verified not to change.

Illustration

Take for example Language:CPlusPlus. If we want to write a function and ensure that its parameter is not modified, we can pass it per constant reference. If the immutability is violated, the program will not compile:

doSomething(const int& i) // pass by constant reference

    ++i; // compile error
}
